Forest Protection & Restoration Initiative

“Healthy forests are natural shields against climate change, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss – and resilient forests are a shared global responsibility.”

Forest ecosystems across regions face increasing pressures from climate change, wildfires, illegal logging, and the long-term impacts of conflict and land degradation. These threats destabilize landscapes, endanger communities, and reduce the resilience of natural habitats.

GreenUnity Ukraine works with foresters, research institutions, emergency services, and community partners to restore vulnerable forests using modern monitoring technologies, cross-regional cooperation, and climate-adaptive reforestation programs.

This initiative complements our broader environmental and safety work, creating more resilient landscapes for both people and wildlife across interconnected regions.

Key Components of the Initiative

Integrated Damage Mapping

Satellite imagery, remote sensing, drones, and field surveys to map burned, degraded, and illegally logged forest areas, forming a shared geospatial foundation for restoration planning.

Post-Disaster & Wildfire Recovery

Stabilizing soils, preventing secondary environmental impacts, and restoring forest cover in areas affected by wildfires, extreme climate events, and landscape degradation.

Community-Led Reforestation

Engaging volunteers, schools, communities, and local partners to plant climate-resilient species, restore shelterbelts, and support long-term forest stewardship.

Biodiversity Corridors & Climate Resilience

Restoring ecological corridors for species migration and creating mixed, climate-adaptive forest stands resistant to drought, pests, and extreme weather.

Forest protection requires coordinated action across sectors. This initiative unites on-the-ground restoration, scientific research, and long-term policy alignment to strengthen climate-resilient forest systems.

Field Implementation

Local partnerships, field restoration projects, and community engagement in vulnerable forest areas.

Data & Research

Cooperation with universities, environmental researchers, and technology partners on geospatial analysis, AI tools, forest-health metrics, and climate-adaptation modelling.

Policy & Partnerships

Engagement with public authorities, NGOs, and international partners to scale effective approaches and shape long-term forest resilience frameworks.

By 2030, the initiative aims to:

  • • Restore and protect vulnerable forest landscapes affected by climate stress, wildfires, and land degradation.
  • • Develop shared monitoring tools for data-driven forest management, early-warning analysis, and climate-adaptive restoration.
  • • Strengthen community involvement and environmental stewardship across regions.
