Participation of GreenUnity Ukraine in the Climate Change Adaptation Workshop for Ukraine’s Food Security
GreenUnity Ukraine participated in an important event organized by the International Technical Assistance Program of the U.S. Department of the Interior, with support from the Office of the U.S. Assistance Coordinator for Europe and Eurasia under the U.S. Department of State. The workshop, titled “Climate Change Adaptation Scenario Planning for Ukraine’s Food Security,” was held from October 22 to 24, 2024, at the Lyndon B. Johnson Center in Washington, D.C.
The workshop brought together specialists working on climate change and its impact on Ukrainian agriculture, including representatives from government and non-governmental organizations, civil society, international organizations, and academia. The main objective of the event was to develop strategies for adapting to the effects of extreme weather events, which are already threatening Ukraine’s food security.
The program included discussions on a wide range of topics, from hydrology to socio-economic factors, which were taken into account in formulating adaptation strategies. Participants discussed methods to increase the resilience of the agricultural sector, which can not only help Ukraine adapt to a changing climate but also sustain agricultural production in the post-war years.
The workshop also aimed to identify necessary data, parameters, and tools for the effective implementation of sustainable climate adaptation solutions. Interactive sessions allowed participants to share experiences, ideas, and perspectives, contributing to a comprehensive approach to adaptation planning.
GreenUnity Ukraine actively participated in discussions and contributed to the development of proposals. Our involvement in the workshop highlighted the importance of a comprehensive approach to climate change and adaptation issues in Ukraine. GreenUnity’s participation also underscores our commitment to protecting Ukraine’s environment and food security, and we are glad to have been part of this crucial initiative.
We are confident that the strategies and approaches developed at the workshop will contribute to building a more resilient future for Ukraine’s agricultural sector, especially in the context of a changing climate and the need to maximize crop yields in a post-war reality.
